AVON -- Fans at the Lake Erie Crushers game Friday night attempted to go where no baseball fans have likely gone before -- breaking a flossing world record.

The event was sponsored by Dr. Andrew Deak, of Deak Medical Dentistry. The dentist was compelled to sponsor the event after a recent study said the Cleveland area had the worst flossing habits in the country.

The previous world record for flossing was made on March 19, 2004, in Mooresville, NC. During that record, 1,470 people flossed on a 6,000-foot single string.

At the game Friday night, 1,530 people flossed. Guinness has yet to certify the record, that could take a few weeks. Participants had to floss for 30 seconds simultaneously.

Everyone who participated got a voucher for another game with the Crushers this season.
