Driver who struck Orange officer remains in hospital

ORANGE VILLAGE -- The driver of vehicle that struck Orange Village police officer Robert Rosic's SUV Thursday afternoon on Interstate 271 northbound  remains in critical but stable condition at Hillcrest Hospital.

Police have identified the driver of the 2013 white Dodge Avenger with New Jersey license plates as Eugene R. Ottow, 84, of Parma Heights.

Rosic, 45, a 20-year veteran of the police department, was released from MetroHealth Medical Center late Thursday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing and no formal charges have been filed at this time.

The crash occured at 1:38 p.m. northbound on Interstate 271 at Harvard Road. Rosic was found unconscious in the police SUV. Rosic had been conducting traffic enforcement on the west berm when his SUV was struck.

He was taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Orange Village police SUV was rear-ended by the Dodge Avenger.
