WKYC Web StaffCLEVELAND - The Cleveland Indians have confirmed that they made a three-way trade with the Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Indians received RHP Trevor Bauer, RHP Matt Albers and RHP Bryan Shaw from the Diamondbacks as well as OF Drew Stubbs from the Reds in exchange for popular fan favorite outfielder Shin-Soo Choo, Infielder Jason Donald, LHP Tony Sipp, and INF Lars Anderson along with cash considerations.
Choo, Donald and cash are being sent to Cincinnati while Sipp, Anderson and INF Didi Gregorius (from CIN) are going to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Following today's transactions the Indians 40-man roster remains at 40.
The deal was announced Tuesday night. There are reports that another deal could be brewing involving shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera.
Choo has been Cleveland's primary right fielder for the Indians since 2006. He should play centerfield and bat leadoff for the Reds.
Dealing Choo was seen as a necessity for the Indians. He was entering the final year of his contract and will be eligible for free agency in 2013.
The Indians have not been able to work out a deal with agent Scott Boras, who has turned down several extensions in recent years.
The 30-year-old Choo batted .283 with 16 homers and 67 RBIs in 155 games last season.
