Ohio nuke plant clears hurdle needed for license

TOLEDO -- Federal regulators say there are no safety issues that should stand in the way of renewing the operating license for the Davis-Besse nuclear plant in northern Ohio.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Friday said it issued its final safety evaluation report as part of the license renewal process for Davis-Besse.

FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Co. is seeking a 20-year license extension for the nuclear plant that sits along Lake Erie east of Toledo.

A final decision on the request isn't expected to come until next September.
