AKRON -- A 16-year-old girl who was shot in the head and killed early Sunday morning in Akron was 4 months pregnant, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.
Police responded to a home at 261 East Archwood Avenue around 3:55 a.m. Sunday where they found 16-year-old Anna R. Karam dead in the living room.
Karam, who was four months pregnant, had been shot in the head.
The Summit County Medical Examiner has ruled Karam's death a homicide. The girl's mother, Patricia Karam, told WKYC she was on her way to make funeral arrangements and did not want to talk about her daughter's death.
Jessica Halman, 19, of Norton, was also found injured in the kitchen.
Halman, who was also shot in the head, was taken to Akron General Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available.
Witness statements were taken by police and they quickly identified David Stoddard, 24, as the suspect. Police said Stoddard was looking for his ex-girlfriend in the house and when did not find her, he shot the other girls.
Spokesman Lt. Rick Edwards said Stoddard was acquainted with the teens and others who were in the house on East Arlington.
Akron Police requested that Wadsworth police search for Stoddard's vehicle in connection to the shooting. It was located in the parking lot of a Legacy Inn hotel on High Street.
Medina County SWAT officers responded to the hotel and entered Stoddard's room. He was taken into custody for aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, and felonious assault.
Stoddard pleaded not guilty to the charges on Monday morning and was being held under $250,000 cash bond.
He had been arrested in November on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, and was free on $10,000 bond at the time of the shootings on East Arlington Streete.
