AKRON -- Demetrius Treadwell and Alex Abreu each finished with 13 points to lead the Akron Zips to a 68-64 victory over the Buffalo Bulls in a Mid-American Conference bout at James A. Rhodes Arena.
For the Zips (15-4, 6-0 MAC), Treadwell also pulled down seven rebounds and Abreu dished out four assists.
Jarryn Skeete led all scorers with 19 points for the Bulls (7-13, 2-4), while Tony Watson finished with 15 points and Javon McCrea added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Buffalo connected on 15-of-28 of its field goal tries in the first half, including 7-of-12 from beyond the 3-point arc, as it took a 37-31 lead into the break. Akron shot 46.2 percent from the field, but missed all but one of its six 3-point tries before halftime.
After intermission, the Bulls went cold from the floor, making just 32.1 percent of their field goal attempts. The Zips found their stroke from long- range, knocking down 6-of-11 tries from 3-point range. Trailing by 13 points, 55-42, with under 11 minutes to play, the Zips used a 19-0 run over the next six minutes to put themselves ahead for good. The Bulls would get to within one with less than two minutes to go in regulation, but Akron was able to hold on for the victory and remain perfect in conference play.
The Zips had a slight edge in points in the paint, 28-24. Akron outscored Buffalo 15-7 at the free-throw line.
