CLEVELAND -- The city of Cleveland is making major repairs to Euclid Avenue, two months after a Channel 3 News investigation found hazardous sidewalks that caused injuries to pedestrians.
These are the same sidewalks that were part of a $23 million reconstruction completed only four years ago.
Repairs are also underway around catch basins on Euclid Avenue, between Public square and East 22nd Street. The city blames the collapse on underground tubing that belongs to Cleveland Public Power.
The city has targeted 75 locations along that stretch of Euclid Avenue for repairs. Some of the most hazardous sections of sidewalks have already been fixed, includng the so-called "OK Corral."
That's a term some downtown employees gave a 10-foot section of hazardous sidewalk outside the PNC bank building. It had been sealed off with a picket fence for two years.
Patti Yanoviz is among a number of downtown employees who have tripped on sections of sinking sidewalks and injured themselves.
"It's still potentially dangerous, but this is a huge step in the right direction," said Yanoviz, who was told of the city's repairs.
The city estimates the work will cost $225,000.
