Cleveland: Fatal shooting suspect is retired police sergeant

CLEVELAND -- Just before 3 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to a home on East 151st Street for a report of a man shot.

Police arrived and called EMS, which took the victim to MetroHealth Medical Center where he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The suspect, determined to be retired Cleveland police sergeant Dale Edwards, 60, was immediately taken into custody and taken to the city's central prison unit.

The Cleveland Police Homicide Unit's preliminary investigation shows that the victim and the suspect, who is the victim's landlord, were arguing over rent money.

During the argument, the suspect produced a handgun and shot the unarmed victim.

The suspect then called police and told the police dispatcher about the shooting.
