MACEDONIA -- Raya, a dog that was stolen from Canine Lifeline rescue during an adoption event at a local pet store, has been returned.

A Streetsboro man who identified himself as Andrew says a teenage girl who lived nearby tried to give Raya to him saying that her parents wouldn't allow her to keep the dog. Andrew recognized the dog from social media posts.

He contacted Canine Lifeline and told them he knew who had the dog. A spokesperson for Canine Lifeline also reported the dog was safely returned.

The 2-year-old black Lab named Raya was stolen out of her crate at the PETCO store on Aurora Road Saturday.

Volunteers say they saw two girls acting suspicious while they filled out out paperwork before the dog was noticed missing.

Raya does have an implanted microchip that can be used to identify her.

Police haven't yet decided whether to file charges or not against the suspected thieves.
