ORRVILLE - A suspected tornado touched down Tuesday afternoon near Orrville in Wayne County as part of a cluster of severe storms that moved through the area around 3 p.m.
The Wayne County Sheriff first noticed funnel clouds forming in the area during patrols and notified the National Weather Service who issued a tornado warning for Wayne County.
Shortly afterward, 9-1-1 received a call of an old farm house hit on McQuaid Rd. Initial inspections showed about $80,000 in damage to the structure.
No one was hurt in the home as the occupants were away at the time. Two cats and a dog were also not injured. Other damage was observed to nearby trees and cornfields, although no other structures appeared to be damaged.
The National Weather Service says its storm survey team will be in Orrville on Thursday and will investigate other damage in Stark and Holmes Counties.
Massillon police also reported some damage by the storm in that city.
