NORTH RIDGEVILLE -- Animal rights groups Rescue Me Ohio, Ohio SPCA and Alley Cat Allies peacefully protested at Monday's North Ridgeville City Council meeting.
Rescue Me Ohio protested the shooting deaths of five feral kittens a week ago by the North Ridgeville Police Department's Humane Officer.
The police chief said the humane officer "acted appropriately" and he will not be disciplined.
Alley Cat Allies, the nation's largest advocacy group for cats, will present a petition with more than 27,000 signatures calling for an immediate end to all "euthanasia" of cats in North Ridgeville.
The petition to Mayor G. David Gillock calls on the mayor to issue an immediate order halting the "euthanasia" of cats by Humane Officers and to meet with Alley Cat Allies to discuss more humane measures for feral cats, including community-supported humane alternatives, like Trap-Neuter-Return.
Paul Berry, executive director of Alley Cat Allies, led the protest.
