SANDUSKY -- The Erie County Sheriff and the U.S. Coast Guard have called off the search for 2 missing kayakers Sunday evening as darkness fell.
They will resume the search at daybreak.
Early Sunday, Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth told Channel 3 Jon Francis and his 12-year-old daughter, Viola Francis, went missing sometime Saturday evening near Crystal Rock an area of the Sandusky Bay.
Sheriff Sigsworth said they received a call at 5:20 a.m. Sunday
The two were supposed to kayak from Crystal Rock to the Edison bridge and back.
The Ottawa County Sheriff Office located the kayaks abandoned around 9:30 a.m., just north of Crystal Rock on the Ottawa county side of the bay.
The United States Coast Guard added that they recovered a pair of camouflage boots.
The father's girlfriend reported the two missing.
The United States Coast Guard, Margaretta Fire Department, Port Harbor Fire Department, Erie County Sheriff's Office and Ottawa County Sheriffs office called off the search Sunday evening because of darkness.
