CLEVELAND -- The Greater Cleveland RTA will begin a $7 million restoration project on the Red Line's S-Curve today. The project is expected to be completed on June 7, 2013.

Until then, the Red Line will be closed near the restoration site. Buses will serve customers in the area between the West 117th Street Rapid Station and the West Blvd.-Cudell Rapid Station.

"This is a vital upgrade to our Red Line rail system focusing on infrastructure, drainage, rails, ties, ballasts and overhead power system," said Joe Calabrese, CEO & General Manager, RTA.

If headed downtown from the west side, riders will exit the Red Line at West 117th Street, and take a bus to the West Blvd.-Cudell Station to continue along the Red Line route.

RTA says the work may delay riders' commute time by a few minutes.

The section of track being upgraded is nearly 3,000 feet long. It was originally built in 1955 as part of the Windermere to the Airport Red Line.

Much of the drainage system in that area of the track is not doing its job. It will be cleaned and, parts of it, replaced
