WASHINGTON D.C.-- Some Republicans say the sequestration budget cuts are painful medicine that the country must take to start getting a handle on its runaway spending.
Democrats say the rich should be willing to pay more taxes to help reduce the furloughs and program cuts that will impact real people.
WKYC Senior Political Correspondent Tom Beres plays both roles in this debate.
Meantime, there was no progress in Washington towards resolving the issue.
The House adjourned for the weekend with more finger-pointing between Republicans and the White House over who is to blame.
Two separate measures to stop or temper the cuts -- one from Republicans and one from Democrats -- failed in the Senate.
U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown said, "There's just no reason we shouldn't be able to come to a compromise...It will be a significant hit....I'm concerned about the damage this could to to NASA Glenn, senior nutrition programs and Head Start and police and firefighter layoffs. This is serious, what it can mean at Hopkins."
The President meets with Congressional leaders Friday to discuss what happens next.
