Perry: Vigil held for teacher killed in car accident

PERRY -- A vigil was held for a Perry Local Schools teacher who was killed in a Saturday morning car accident.

32-year-old Matthew Mcleese, a science and social studies teacher at Pfeiffer Intermediate School died from his injuries at Aultman Hospital.

Dozens were at the vigil held at Pfeiffer Intermediate to remember Mcleese who also served as assistant track coach at the school.

School Superintendent Marty Bowe said Mcleese was involved in a program to help build schools in Africa. Bowe also says Mcleese grew up in Perry and attended Perry Local schools. His family remains very involved with the district.

The accident happened around 10:20 a.m. at Faircrest Street SW and Sherman Church Road SW where McLeese's Honda Accord was involved in an accident with a tractor trailer.

Fire and EMS crews responded to the scene. They transported him to Aultman Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
