CLEVELAND - The middle part of March is bringing a new type of celestial show with the Comet Pan-Starrs becoming visible to the naked eye including in northeast Ohio.
Skywatchers across North America have begun reporting sightings of the comet as it makes its closest approach to the sun, just inside the orbit of Mercury over the next few weeks.
The comet will glow as bright as a magnitude two star, making it visible to the naked eye.
The best viewing times will be right after sunset. Be sure to look low and west once the sun passes the horizon. Never look directly into theh sun.
March 12th and 13th will kick off some of the best viewing opportunities as the comet appears to pass not far from the moon that will be in its crescent phase at that time, provided skies are cloud-free.
The comet will remain visible until early April as it moves away from the sun and disappears back into the depths of space.
