All across Northeast Ohio, charities and hunger centers are preparing for one of their busiest days of the year. This Thanksgiving, the need in our own community is growing.
"I start cooking turkeys in October. It takes a long time," says Sr. Corita Ambro, with St. Augustine's in Tremont.
The Hunger Center already serves 3 meals every day of the week. But this Thanksgiving, the local church plans on serving 17,000 meals at 3 different locations and delivered to homes.
Sr. Corita says there are more families calling for meals this year compared to years past. And in some cases, the Hunger Center is the only family visitors have.
"One person I met the other day, I was saying something about going home to see your mom and he said, 'my family doesn't want anything to do with me.'"
St. Augustine's delivers from Lorain all the way to the far east side and all across Northeast Ohio. They have plenty of people serving on Thanksgiving Day, but they still need drivers to take meals to shut-in's and people in need.
