CLEVELAND -- Councilman Conwell introduced an emergency ordinance at Monday night's Cleveland City Council meeting intended to keep residents safe from those who violate traffic codes.

This amendment would increase the penalty for not stopping when a school bus is stopped to a first degree misdemeanor, license suspension is maintained.

The ordinance needs to receive the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all council members and would take effect either immediately upon being passed and the Mayor's approval or after the earliest period allowed by law.

The traffic code would include street racing, licensing drivers, accidents, willfully fleeing a police officer, stopping for school buses, placing dangerous material on streets, and bicycle safety violations.
